Hysbysfa is a lovely and charming holiday cottage in Bala, North Wales on the Eastern edge of the Snowdonia National Park. The cottage is secluded and private yet still walking distance to the pubs, shops and the wonderful Bala lake.

As you cross the brow of the hill a wide beautiful valley opens out in front of you. The cottage, a traditional welsh build of thick stonewalls under a slate roof, is located within a large garden complete with babbling brook, surrounded in turn by fields of green grass. A picture postcard image of peace and tranquillity.

Through the gate, the drive leads you past the annex cinema studio (we’ll return to this in a moment) up to the stable door of the cottage. Once inside, a gorgeous living room greets holiday guests. A dining area to the right and lounge to the left. The dining area comprises a large table overlooked by a deep-set window and some elegant pictures hanging on whitewashed walls. The lounge opposite has a lovely inglenook fireplace complete with log burner. A leather sofa and comfortable armchairs face the warming fire.

Through and around to the right we pass a useful utility room with additional wc, Belfast sink and shower before entering the kitchen. Bespoke freestanding stainless steel units create a quirky country cottage feel whilst modern appliances and utensils ensure enthusiastic chefs are well catered for.

There are three bedrooms upstairs. One double room, one bunk bed room and one single room. The single room has a second full sized bed under the first, which can be pulled out if required. Please ask. All the bedrooms are immaculately decorated and have some nice ornamental touches that complement the character and style of this traditional welsh country cottage. The last room upstairs is the bathroom. Again, nicely decorated with a nice white bathroom suite including a large bath to help you soak those legs after a long day walking in the mountains.

Finally, we have to go back outside before walking across the drive to get to the annex building. A nearby barn has been lavishly converted into a unique cinema room for self-catering guests. A large flat screen TV hangs on the wall in front of a large comfortable sofa. A small kitchenette and separate shower room and WC means film or sports fans can make themselves very much at home as they watch a DVD or a live sporting event.

As described, the cottage is in an idyllic location. Fields of grazing sheep surround a large garden that includes a picnic bench, BBQ and a small brook. Beyond the valley floor the Arenig Mountains rise up to form an impressive backdrop.

Bala itself is a charming example of a welsh market town and a wonderful mix of traditional welsh culture and contemporary shops and cafés. The surrounding area has long established itself as a Mecca for adventure activities. Fishing, sailing and windsurfing are all enjoyed on Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake). And the world renowned Tryweryn white water centre is just up the road. The Coed Y Brennin Mountain Biking centre is about half an hour further on. Bala Golf Course is also within easy walking distance of the holiday cottage.

Sitting as it does on the Eastern edge of the National Park, this part of Snowdonia has the natural benefit of being easily accessible from the English road network. But seaside towns such as Aberdyfi and Barmouth are only an hour drive to the west. Similarly Snowdon is a little less than an hour to the North.
